tables, chairs & other unrelated objects

With being a student at OCAD, I'm surrounded by many talented artists and designers. There's always great work on display. This past month at OCAD's student gallery was the exhibit Tables, Chairs & Other Unrelated Objects. Upon entering the gallery, I was greeted with this artist statement neatly written on the wall:

"For those of us interested in furniture, itʼs not always the object alone that weʼre after. During our studies within the furniture program at OCAD University we have all had the opportunity to explore and develop our thinking around the role of furniture as a medium of personal expression, as a reflection of social and cultural etiquette, and as an influence on human activity. This exhibition presents a glimpse into that conversation."

I wish I had taken better snapshots of the actual works. As I was the only one in the gallery besides the employees, I was a little shy to be taking photos. Hence, my sneaky and quick snaps did not turn out so well. I was, however, obsessed with the construction of the window display and took a good handful of pictures of it. If you look closely you can see the thin fishing wire holding all the tiny furniture in mid-air. The details are just fascinating!

I'm going to keep returning to the
Student Gallery and hopefully get the chance to share my findings. The displays around school are always a source of inspiration. With a bit of wishful thinking and a ton of hard work, maybe my art will be displayed here one day!

non-committal valentines

Happy Valentine's Day to all my readers!

This image comes from one of my favourite artists, Gemma Correll. Her drawings are darling
and witty, and she's a gem of an illustrator. Most definitely check our her work!

november bloom

Bouquet I received on my birthday, November 2011.

I'm constantly stumbling across forgotten photos in folders I've tucked in within other folders upon my computer's desktop. It seems I need to do some serious organizing as it becomes harder to find files or folders I've labelled with obscure nicknames. I've never actually thought of my hard-drive as something that needed cleaning until not a professor of mine was having trouble one day finding a PowerPoint slide he wanted to show the class. His laptop screen appeared against the wall of the classroom, completely covered in scattered overlapping files and he jokingly said, "Excuse my messy desktop."

In addition to my virtual desktop becoming messy, my actual existing desktop that I do most of my work on is growing equally, if not more messy. For some this second semester of university seems to be easier but I'm finding it more challenging. I'm definitely doing a ton more painting than I anticipated, hence the messiness. I haven't had the time to take as many photos as I used to. In fact, a roll of film I started last summer is still patiently waiting to be finished. There's three more shots left! I'll try my best to finish it and get a new blog post up for you guys. I can't really recall any of the photos I've taken on that roll so I'm curious to see what comes up! Also, to get back into the swing of things I'm participating in a photography project called
The Meal, but that's another blog post as well.

Tiffany x Garance Doré & The Sartorialist

With Valentine's day around the corner I find myself getting wound up in hoopla. Not that I'm a hopeless romantic or any type but I do enjoy my share of charming little things. I stumbled upon a behind the scenes look of Garance Doré and The Sartorialist's Scott Schuman shooting True Love in Pictures for Tiffany & Co.'s What Makes Love True campaign. Not only are the couples in the shoot adorable, but I've always considered Garance & Scott to be a lovely pair. I thought I'd share this snippet to give you guys a dose of well-dressed couples and a hint of warm fuzzies.
